Sports
Since its foundation in 1980, one of the main axes of COPAVA’s action has been the promotion of sports and physical activity by people with intellectual disabilities.
We are aware that physical activity improves not only health and physical well-being, but that it has a beneficial influence on other dimensions of Quality of Life, as significant as interpersonal relationships, emotional well-being, personal development or inclusion.
For this reason, COPAVA plans every year, together with the sports professionals of the associated centers, a series of leagues and meetings of different sports modalities that allow the participation of all users, whatever their physical condition.
Basket
The COPAVA Basketball league is played by 18 mixed teams, organized in 3 levels.
Players have the opportunity to participate in the Clinics given by international professional player María Pina through her foundation.
Football
In COPAVA, the Football league is also played, with 3 divisions and the participation of 15 mixed teams. The calendar is set up every year in the month of October and the finals between the best ranked teams are played at the end of the season, in spring.
Colpbol
One of the modalities with greater projection in the field of COPAVA is Colpbol, a genuinely inclusive sport that was created in Valencia 25 years ago. It is very popular in schools and high schools in Spain and is beginning to make inroads in Europe, thanks to the fact that it encourages the participation of everyone.
The COPAVA Colpbol league has two groups, a total of 14 teams, which must be formed mandatorily by men and women. The rules are very simple, if you want to know more, visit www.europe-colpbol.eu where you will find all the information about this innovating sport.
Petanque
Petanque is one of the most popular sports among users of the COPAVA centers, with more than 80 teams participating in the annual league. After the qualifying matches, the finals are played, which always arouse great excitement for the high level shown by the athletes.
Boccia
Boccia is a combination of tactics, precision and skill. Therefore, its practice is highly recommended, but it is especially indicated for people with a greater level of functional impairment. Therefore, the ball can be thrown by hand or through an assistive ramp. COPAVA organizes 2 annual Boccia meetings.
Adapted games
Adapted Games are aimed at people with more limited physical or intellectual abilities.
It works on two levels: Motor Games, to improve psychomotor skills with games such as driving a ball with your foot or following a circuit, and Sports Games, to reinforce basic gestures of different sports, such as shooting a basket or handling a stick of hockey
In the four annual meetings that COPAVA organizes, the Volunteers, generally young students, who support the participants in carrying out the exercises, play a major role.
Athletics
Every year COPAVA organizes 3 Athletics Meetings in which sprints and races on distances from 10 meters to 800 meters, relay and wheelchair races, long jump and shot put, in male and female categories are held. With this variety of events, participation is open to everyone, in order to promote sports practice.
Athletics meetings are held in public facilities of different municipalities in the province of Valencia, with the valuable collaboration of occupational centers staff, town councils and volunteers.
Hiking
Every year, COPAVA proposes several hiking trips, both on urban routes and in natural environments, which are usually crowd activities with an average of 500 people participating.
The routes are designed with the collaboration of the organising centers, and are configured with different levels of difficulty, so that all people can enjoy them.
Fun runs
Every year, the users of the centers associated with Copava have three important appointments in the Fun Runs Xàtiva, Gandia and Ontinyent. In addition to practicing sport, the races allow them to spend a day of celebration shared with the whole community: residents, institutions, young students and associations of all kinds that participate in the organization as runners or as volunteers.
These events, which have massive participation, give visibility to the disability sector and help create a more inclusive society.
