Art and culture
Artistic expression is a powerful tool to improve communication, foster creativity and personal development and increase the emotional well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. In the centers associated with COPAVA, professionals work permanently on scenic or visual arts projects, as a complement to personal accomplishment.
The Visual and Performing Arts Commission proposes different activities where participants can express and share their artistic skills, thus promoting culture and education.
Performing arts festivals
Two stage festivals are scheduled every year in COPAVA: The Winter Festival, which takes place in December and the Spring Festival, which closes the annual activities.
Theater, music, dance, and other stage expressions are offered by groups of artists in the Performing Arts Festivals, which have been held for more than 20 years, organized in collaboration with the professionals of the associated centers.
Crafts street markets
In the occupational centers work is done in craft workshops of various types: paper, ceramics, soaps, trencadís, …
Through COPAVA, the products created by the users are sold in craft markets organized by the University of Valencia or high schools. This participation promotes social inclusion and shows the community the creative abilities of this collective.
Visual arts competitions
A very popular initiative among the users of the COPAVA centers is the participation in Visual Arts competitions. The Christmas Postcards Contest, the Fallas Contest and the Digital Photography Contest are held, among others.
Through these proposals we encourage artists to express their creativity through drawing or painting or through the use of digital devices, thus promoting their technological skills.
Other cultural proposals
To complete the cultural offer, COPAVA proposes to the centers the creation of participatory videos on the occasion of cultural or popular celebrations such as International Book Day or Halloween.
In these group videos, that are published in social networks, users star in music videos or playbacks or recreate famous works of art, once again showing their artistic abilities.
We also organize outings for a theatre performance or a movie, where people from different centers spend cultural experiences together.
